I grew up in Fairfield, CT. It was a wonderful town to grow up in. In 1980, I got married and we moved to Milford, CT and I have been here ever since. 44 years now and it seems like yesterday. I love to ski and plan on spending the rest of my life on the slopes, while enjoying my time with family and friends. I also love to run and have finished 15 marathons over the years and I believe that I still have a couple more left in me. My wife (2nd marriage) and I both love to travel all over the world, but also like to take long drives to ‘nowhere’ just to get lost and see where it takes us. Looking forward to our retirements, so that we will have even more time to do all of those things that we love. It’s a wonderful life!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
After graduating from the Business school at Syracuse University in 1978, I went to work in my family’s Leather Garment Manufacturing business and became the President of the company, R&S Leather Sportswear, Inc. in 1986 until we closed our doors in 2004. I became a Real Estate agent in 2004 and still maintain my license with Coldwell Banker in Milford. However my full time job now is as a Real Estate Photographer and started my own Real Estate Photography company, Photos By Phillip, LLC in 2008 and continue to take photos of homes throughout the whole state of Connecticut and sometimes beyond. Over the past 15 years, I taken photos of over 10,000 homes for over 500 different real estate agents. It’s been quite a run and I hope to keep doing this for as long as I am able. I love my work..
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Be kind and live every day as if it were your last. Cherish your family, friends and all of the little things in life. The glass is always half full.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I will be up in Vermont in five years, hoping to take lots of photos and ski for the rest of my life, while enjoying our times with family and friends.
Phillip H Kohan & Our Community
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Bin 100 is a favorite in Milford, but so is Mr. Mac’s. In New Haven, it’s the Union League Cafe, but, of course, all of the great apizza places in New Haven, as well.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve been living and working Milford for over 44 years now.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
All of my neighbors in Milford. Every one of them have their stories to tell and I love every one of them.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The Jock and Jill’s restaurant on the Post Rd. in Milford. That was truly the bar where everyone knew your name.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
From all of Milford’s beaches on the Sound to the many shops and restaurants on the Green, as well as all of the free community events, festivals, and concerts around town, it really feels like we’re on vacation every day here in Milford.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Mel Brooks. He’s makes me laugh. Enough said. We would have our lunch at Katz’s Deli. Either the one in Woodbridge, or the one in NYC on Houston St. would be fine with me.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
The Wizard of Oz, The Big Lebowski, and Casablanca for movies. The Honeymooners, Taxi, and Seinfeld for TV shows.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
That I cry at live stage productions, especially musicals. It is so awe inspiring to have an actor make me believe that they are someone else.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
The sausage apizza at Modern Pizza in New Haven.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My mother and father. Both deceased now, but have and always will be my inspiration forever.
